Who I am..
Hello there, my name is Arianna, I am from Italy, from Lerici to be precise (La Spezia) You might have heard about Cinque Terre, yes I am form there.
I have always had an interest and passion in food and nutrition since I was a teenager.
I completed my studies in dietetics in 2005, graduated with honours at the University of Medicine and Surgery of Florence. (pdf degree) After that I started to travel.
I am not registered with the HCPC ( Health and care professions council), that’s why I cannot call myself Dietitian. But as you can see, I graduated after 3 and half years of studying, internship at the hospital and final degree exam., which in my case implied 6 more months of research and practice on the wards.

As mentioned, after that I started to travel..

My first significant long experience was in Africa. I lived in Zambia, in a rural area, for one year.
I had the privilege to work with an Italian NGO on a project about food security for people living with HIV and AIDS. I was working on the field, meeting with all our clients to see if our intervention was improving their quality of life, through their nutritional evaluation.
After this life changing experience, I kept moving, I lived for shorter or longer period in different countries and continents, doing various things and somehow I have never come back
Some memories from my trips to Africa..
I then lived in Denmark for a while too, I spent one year in a school for volunteers, whose dreams was to participate in developing projects in Africa or India. That year and the following year in Africa, Malawi, was crucial to make who I am today. I met, worked and lived with so many different people from all around the world. Liked it or not, that shapes you, this constant interaction and exchange with all kind of people with their own opinions, backgrounds, skills and dreams. And at the same time this same interaction but with yourself, who is growing somehow.
This made me see and feel the world in a different way, less naive, more critical, resolute and more sensitive too.

Travelling I started to notice how food and nutrition really define a POPULATION. From a culture and traditions point of view of course. But sadly I could clearly see also how people, and with time an entire population, can be influenced and defined by media, industries and big food chains.
In Africa, you can see the difference between rural areas and cities. People in big cities are starting to be overweight, showing diabetes or hypertension and not because they have more money and they can afford to eat more, but it is what they eat. Fast food chains are spreading fast.
People getting sicker with health conditions that previously, were not even existing there. I could observe the same in Costa Rica and on reflection, people’s health is changing too. This for me is very sad and frustrating.

Being Italian, having a dad who is an amazing excellent chef, and having grown up with my grannies, as I remember them, always standing in the kitchen next to the stove, cooking real food, or next to the table cutting all sort of fresh colourful vegetables and herbs from the fields…and that smell..well yes, this fuelled my interest and passion toward cooking and eating fresh healthy food.
Keeping it simple, but fresh and colourful, what nature gives to us.
My transition to a plant based lifestyle came much later, but as far as I remember, I have always liked and prioritised healthy fresh food, minimally processed and always loved fruits and vegetables.

For instance, despite the fact that I wasn’t vegan yet, it wasn’t a problem at all for me to not touch meat for a full month during my trip to India. That was more for hygienic reasons, but still I was more than happy and exited to try and explore all those spicy yummy saucy veggie options.
A big part of Indian cuisine is actually based on plant based food, rather than animal food. The same in other populations worldwide, as in the Blue zones, specific areas worldwide with high rates of longevity, meaning where people live exceptionally long and healthy lives.

I have been living in England for a while now and I can see how easy it is to go for an unhealthy food choice. There is so much processed food out there, cheap and ready to eat. It is often hard to understand what we are really eating, what it is doing to our body.

I decided to take a stand, I want to let people know what science is saying and make them understand how much money and political interests are behind certain food industries and the message that we receive.
I became vegan in 2019, first for healthy reasons, and I was amazed and shocked by what I didn’t know BUT was already been proven!
My AIM, to anyone who is interested and open to know, is to show how a plant based diet can be beneficial to you, physically, mentally and as an individual who wants to live in harmony with the only planet we have.
And, last but not least, I just want to help you fall in love with a plant based lifestyle as I did.
